Wild Hermit Crab Diet

Many people buy an exotic pet for their children, not realizing that the level of care is beyond a child's level. For instance, sugar gliders do not make good pets for children because they are fairly high maintenance, nocturnal, and in living for 15 years may become a problem once the child gets a busier teenage lifestyle or goes to college. No exotic animal is without effort to care for it, but if your child wants a pet that is out of the ordinary there are a few that he'll find simpler than others.

Hermit Crabs

Hermit crabs are a great choice for a beginning exotic. They have varying personalities and their antics can really get you laughing. Land hermit crabs, despite their name, are very social. You should always have at least two. They are easily tamable and not aggressive at all when handled frequently. To have healthy, happy hermies you do need a better set up than you may see them sold in, with fresh and salt water and a lid that keeps humidity in the aquarium, but after initial set up these guys are easy. They eat very little food, do not smell, are clean, and are very quiet.
